Walnut Brownies, an ode to nuts

You know what really grinds my gears.  People not liking the idea of something rather than not liking the actuality of it.  Brownies with nuts fall right into this category.  I'm sure you've all experienced this scenario before:

Mr Hungry: Ohhh, are those brownies?
You: Sure are!
Mr Hungry: Oh, but are those nuts?
You: Uh-huh....
Mr Hungry: Urgh, I'll pass.
*Mr Hungry walks away shaking head*

Now, if you've tried nuts in your brownies and just can't get away with them, that's fine. Each to their own and all that jazz.  But, if you just assume you don't like nuts to roll with the majority, you're no friend of mine!

Come on guys, lets unite, lets be friends even.  Just give nuts a chance.  For me.

Thanks to Tiffany of A Spoonful & A Heap for these delightfully nutty beasts! You're slowly helping me convince my boy that nuts are tasty too :)

  1. I feel very similarly about carrot cake, why is everyone always cutting out the nuts?

  2. This drives me mad! My flatmate used to claim he was allergic to nuts until I pointed out that he eats cake with ground almonds in and was just being fussy.

I'm not a major nut fan on their own but I love them in cakes and brownies, the textural contrast of soft and crunchy is awesome.

  6. I think,I don't like nuts in brownies and then I have one, I know I love nuts in brownies and lots of other stuff.

I throw nuts into main dishes, salads and desserts. I coat fish and meat with them. Delicious.

  7. UGH! To make a judgement without even trying, especially when baked from scratch, is a total pet-peeve. My daughter does that "exact" thing with me . . . drives me crazy.

Your brownies look delicious and "GO NUTS!".

  9. Katie, your brownies look fab. I'm with you on trying things before judging them. I'm constantly trying to coax my hubby into trying the various sweet treats I make.

Thanks for stopping my blog. Corn syrup isn't all the exciting...I admit I had rarely used corn syrup before joining SMS. Here's a link to the most popular brand of corn syrup http://karosyrup.com/products.html. Your comment got me curious because I really didn't know what corn syrup was (even though I've used it several times). Apparently "Corn syrup is a mildly sweet, concentrated solution of dextrose and other sugars derived from corn starch. It is naturally sweet. Corn syrup contains between 15% to 20% dextrose (glucose) and a mixture of various other types of sugar.... It controls sugar crystallization in candy, prevents the formation of ice crystals in frozen desserts, enhances fresh fruit flavor in jams and preserves, sweetens and thickens relishes...". Who knew? Hope you enjoy your trip to Florida!

  17. Your brownies look fantastic! I am certainly not opposed to nuts in brownies, but I know they will get consumed faster by others (and therefore not left for me to eat) if I don't add them.
